Every semester I ask the students in a Principles of Econ course "do women in the U.S. earn 82 cents for the same work for which a man is paid $1?" Always the majority of students, if not all the students, answer "yes." I then distribute an essay by the U.S.'s greatest scholar, Thomas Sowell, who debunked this myth long ago. It is a sad commentary on widespread economic illiteracy that people cannot understand the wage gap is mostly, if not entirely, a myth.

A school friend of mine lives just outside the blast zone in NC. She and a bunch of volunteers have been delivering supplies by 4WD since the beginning. When FEMA finally showed up they

Interfered in every way they could. Make you wonder who they work for.

Here’s a relevant Katrina story: I’m from the Mississippi Coast, a series of small, majority white beach towns outside of New Orleans. Whereas NOLA flooded largely due to poor city infrastructure (we can debate as to why…), the Mississippi coastline was obliterated entirely. Plenty of Yankee volunteers came to help, but I suppose they arrived with fantastical visions of rescuing Shaniqua from her 9th Ward rooftop. When they arrived in my middle class neighborhood for disaster cleanup, they were mad and wanted to leave. The flooded, emptied shells of our 2 story brick homes with attached garages did not fit into their savior fantasy, I presume. One guy wouldn’t even get out of the van, because he didn’t come to help “rich people.” So this “disaster equity” BS is no new phenomenon, I guess.

The manifestly brilliant Thomas Sowell is mentioned in a prior comment on pay equity. Sowell also said as recently as two decades ago (or more) that recycling just does not pay. In my (NYS) area it is known that 80% of what is in your carefully segregated recycle bin is treated as ordinary trash (burned or buried) But doncha feel good about your full recycle bin!!!! My other hated virtue-signaling is the very public goody bins (often near churches) that are filled with edibles by do-goodies in the hope of being seen and emptied by those who don’t want to be seen.

FEMA: Federal Election Management Agency (in some parts.)

Universal suffrage has its downsides, as Ann has repeatedly said. ‘Mean Trump’ sentiment reinforces the holding.

Thank you Ann for five and expanded things to know. Thank you poster Brown for help w/link info. Interesting. Since China has such interest in easy dumping, why not charge them a reparations tariff/tax/ fee for dumping toxic materials into waters. I am guessing they are “smart” enough to do the dirty work dumping in international waters, however hurricanes have a way of bringing hidden crap back to shore. Just a guess— Ms Harris would not be on board with this given her documented gender (female— yes?) and half heritage. (Asian—yes?) She says she is not a racist. (Yes…?) Just thinks doing radical things is what needs to be done…(Yes…?)
