FINALLY, a column about my favorite governor and why the loser ex-president is total ballot-box poison! Ann, I think you’re having a lot of fun finding these stock images of Trump’s head in a jar labeled as poison. 😂 Please, more of this. We cannot have Trump screw up this election once more, we are fresh out of lives as a country. Keep pulling up the evidence about why Trump is the biggest loser of them all, nothing more than an Achilles heel in what should be the easiest election for Republicans since Reagan. (Somehow I don’t doubt Republicans will do their best to screw it up anyways!)

Totally agree, and at this point I'm willing to consider any Republican who can stay on (the right) message and win in a general. I thought it would be DeSantis but anti-woke is not a winning campaign strategy for a country being overwhelmed with immigration and suffering from inflation. I hope he either realizes this and adjusts or that someone else can do what Trump did without the Trumpish chaos, which is JUST LISTEN TO THE FREAKING VOTERS. And can someone do that without being awkward or egomaniacal? It's a low bar folks!

Fair points about the border, immigration and inflation, but the genius of DeSantis is he points out how wokeness contributes to the chaos! Maybe diversity hires are actually dangerous for air traffic control, etc. (Hi, Mayor Pete!) His anti-woke message resonates with people who are tired of immigration that is cosmetically in the name of diversity aka wokeness while actually is in the interests of big business. We’re arguing about gendered bathrooms during a record countrywide crime spree while China is building a navy and outpacing us in every measure (especially in education!), meanwhile our infrastructure is literally crumbling and kids can’t read but can talk to you about anal sex. As a New Yorker, I can tell you the anti-woke message is very appreciated by people tired of being preached to about pronouns: we just want quality of life…and we look at Florida in envy. DeSantis’ PR team might need some slight adjusting to reach the average voter, but it’s palatable and furthermore smacks of truth, unlike Trump’s nauseating foolishness.

Woke is a very valid point, but he is still going to need to sway independents who are likely socially liberal. These people gave Trump a shot in 2016 and then voted for Biden in 2020. They don't want to vote for someone who is harping on drag shows and Disney. It's an issue that strikes a chord with a lot of people, but to your point he can't focus on that above crime, immigration, global competition, geopolitical conflict, inflation, etc. Woke is not what the Wall was in 2016.

Only someone from the northeast could believe that Trump’s endorsement did not help DeSantis

The impact was huge

I can’t stand Trump but it is scary that an intelligent person could believe that Trump’s endorsement did not help him win the primary

Adam Putnam was a good man and would have won but 2 years prior he criticized Trump after the release of the “grab em in the__\\” fiasco and Trump never forgets

2 years later Trump went very vocal with his endorsement of DeSantis and the race flipped in one week

Adam Putnam was pretty liberal and a known as a Pelosi style Republican. Adam Putnam was a member of the WEF and in 2008 he made Klaus Schwabs list of Young Global Leaders. All my family and friends here in Florida couldn’t stand Adam Putnam because he was a swamp creature beholden to his big donors. Putnam was a GOP favorite because he was for big government spending and not a conservative.

Adam was not a firebrand conservative but he was a conservative and he always kept an eye towards winning elections in what was 6 years ago a purple state

He would have soundly defeated Gillum and been an odds on favorite to be a national candidate

DeSantis has been a remarkable Governor of what is now a deep red state

If we are not careful we will have another Democrat in the White House with. Dem Senate and Dem House and before long we will be wanting to pack the court as we lose Supreme Court cases

Apparently Trump himself didn't think he had "huge" influence in Florida, in fact was "worried" about his 2020 chances in Florida: "“Trump is worried about Florida, electorally,” said a Republican who spoke with Trump around this time."...

“On the afternoon of Thursday, March 19, [2020] Donald Trump sat in the Oval Office obsessing over the beaches in Florida. CNN footage of shirtless spring breakers packed onto the sand while the coronavirus pandemic raged sparked national outrage—and pressure on Trump to act....But Florida’s Republican governor Ron DeSantis refused to close his state’s beaches, a position even Florida’s Republican senator Rick Scott called reckless. “Lots of people were telling Trump to lean on Ron,” a Trump adviser said....At an adviser’s urging, Trump called DeSantis to tell him to shut down the beaches. “Ron, what are you doing down there?” Trump said, according to a person briefed on the call. “I can’t ban people from going on the beach,” DeSantis snapped, surprising Trump. “These pictures look really bad to the rest of the country,” Trump said. “Listen, we’re doing it the right way,” DeSantis said.

DeSantis’s intransigence backed Trump into a corner. The 41-year-old governor was a Trump protégé and a crucial ally in a must-win state. “Trump is worried about Florida, electorally,” said a Republican who spoke with Trump around this time. Trump did something he rarely does: He caved.

He told DeSantis the beaches could stay open.

“I understand what you’re saying,” Trump said, and hung up."...per 4/28/2020, Vanity Fair:

Some of what Ann claims - who I own every book of hers save one and have always considered to be the most spot on harbinger - is a little sketch.

The claim that Trump had someone to take his SAT test for him came from his hater niece who wrote that book about him, that kinda indicates some bias?

And Trumps endorsement HAS helped some candidates at least in 2020 as I remember.

RDS may or may not have been helped by DJT in his first gubernatorial race but friends from Florida said the bump from Trump made a huge difference.

And yes we see what a brave and competent leader Ron is despite not having the “presence” of DJT - but who has that kind of ego and charisma anyway? As conservatives were not supposed to be swayed by shiny personalities in lieu of intelligence and basic morality (hello Obama voters).

If I ever attend a Trump rally and he does that desanctimonious crap I’ll shout him down. If he actually gets prison time for any of these absurd charges he will be dependent on the new President for his exoneration.

Trump's statements about the nation's most successful Republican governor tell you all you need to know about Trump. It will always be about himself first. The country second.

What the deep state is doing to Donald J Trump is wrong. But that does nothing to abrogate the absolute fact of his stupidity nor his utter lack of political sense. He is like the person that picks their football team by the picture on the helmet.

Thank you for the historical reminder Ann. The ongoing dramatic efforts to raise interest are exhausting. The election can’t come soon enough. The one good takeaway you mentioned is now people are paying attention. Maybe instead of viewing the teen mom series or the various housewives from various counties., persons can start to do some real reading and viewing to understand the issues and come to understand we are in a bad place country-wise.

I will say Trump was good for the economy, save for his boneheaded endorsement of tariffs, which only served to make imported goods that much more expensive. He seemed to believe he was hurting foreign competition when he was, in fact, hurting the US consumer.

So that's my lukewarm endorsement. Otherwise, he's egomaniacal sociopath, emphasizing his non-political background in spades. I have to deal with former classmates who think he's playing 4D chess. The man is an oaf, for lack of a better term, but that's his appeal to his brown shirts.

I think the American public would probably vote for a commie before it voted for a guy with a foreign-sounding name, so Ramaswamy is beyond a long shot. I sent him money anyway.

Trump is better than Biden, who currently appears to be the Gatekeeper to Hell, but that's not saying a lot. I hope to God someone better comes along, but the 2 party systems has been broken for over a decade and I have no faith that this election will not be "fortified" like the last one. At this point we need a miracle.

I think it is best for DeSantis to choose a woman as a running mate but even so, if the Republicans do not pay attention to the polls on the abortion issue and pivot accordingly, they are going down to defeat. What good does it do to be morally right but losers of elections, turning the country over to be run by woke elitists? Ann, if asked, would you become a strategic advisor to the DeSantis campaign?

just now, 750pm central, on Timcast IRL, Vivek speaks about who he would put in the positions of director of OMB and Office of Personnel Management, 'someone who is fundamentally anti government.'

That is everything but my name, but I'm Canadian so I don't think I qualify.

This is very good news, and a good reason to look at him for Pres if you can't stand the thought of Trump or DeSantis in the job.

DeSantis came from a working class family, his father installed tv ratings boxes. Ron and Don are exact opposites with the exception that they both favor endless wars funded by US taxpayers. Yes, Ron went to Yale but he worked his way through doing odd jobs. He was captain of the Yale baseball team. He graduated magna cum laude. Then he graduated cum laude from Harvard. Ron had no problem informing himself about the "science" behind lockdowns, which is why he invited shunned scientists to speak in Dec. 2020. Ron also quickly saw that PCR "tests" were being used criminally as the average 12 year old with an internet connection could see. Most negative "cases", 80-85%, were being erroneously reported as "positive." The false results then made headlines, closed schools, and forced parents to leave work. Ron saw that "cycle threshold" values of PCR tests were being ignored, that CT values above 35 meant the person was negative, Fauci had even said so to associates in July 2020 but this fact was never mentioned out loud by Trump or anyone in the White House though it's said that many there knew about it but kept silent. To me, this alone was mass murder and torture by Trump. It's also said that many labs in US refused to report CT values. At one point Ron required Florida labs to report CT values of tests. I don't know how long this practice lasted. Certainly it exposed Trump's depraved indifference to humanity. I don't plan on voting for either Ron or Don. I'm leaning to RFK Jr.

there is no reason to go after Trump like this when the judicial system is already going after him and will likely have him in prison at some point. If you're going to attack Trump, go after him for his failure to abolish the FBI, CIA, NSA, DHS, TSA, EPA, DNI; his believing Pence about Flynn lying about the Kislyak phone call (which turned out to be even more perfect than the Zelenski phone call. It was funny that in the FBI charging documents, they mentioned sanctions despite sanctions not having been talked about during the call; Flynn and Kislyak discussed the diplomats that the monkey Obama had kicked out ostensibly because the Russians had involved themselves in the election but really because the monkey Obama wanted to instigate a phone call between Kislyak and the incoming NSA advisor. As Bongino amply pointed out on his podcasts at the time, the NSA simply reverse engineered their surveillance of Flynn by targeting Kislyak and discovering the phone number code he was talking to was in the Dominican, where Flynn was vacationing and they knew he was vacationing).

Pretend everything Ann says about Trump is true: he is a buffoon. Which buffoon in the race at present has millions of donations averaging $35 and which politician goes to Yale for a fundraiser and relies upon billionaires for his donations and advice.... Maybe millions of voters dont GAF about the political intrigue of endorsements, maybe they enjoyed watching Trump call the Nork leader Little Rocket Man from the podium of the UN (which Trump also should have kicked out of the country and should have refused to give one more dollar to that Star Wars bar collection of third world detritus). Maybe they enjoyed no new wars and a couple precision missile attacks on Iranians.

Trumps failure to build the wall is meaningless too, when one considers that Xiden would have had no problem with sending the military to the border to demolish it. Walls are NOT forever if the government doesnt want the wall to be there.

It doesn't matter a whit who the GOP candidate will be. The US is f***ed, the corruption is too great to be reversed, and the only hope is for thousands of Tim McVeighs to sharpen up their marksmanship in order to have a least a little swamp blood flow into the nearest gutter. Or even better, have them take cover at the southern border and pile up a few thousand corpses of border jumpers as a signal to other border jumper what awaits them in the good old USofA. As the authorities would pour in to find who is shooting border jumpers, shoot them, too.

The political process in DC is broken; it is up to patriots to water the tree of liberty (and not with superior vote gathering tactics).

Agreed I think BiDumb would have torn down that wall no matter what the cost to us and all would have been in vain.

And we need Ron D for his two terms as this would have protected the wall and his possible VP to fulfill the next eight years. Ron himself brought up that simple but significant fact.
