I wish trump won in 2020 and I hope he wins in 2024, but I think the republicans are cruising for an epic ass kicking. The good news is we’ll be through with trump in Nov of 2024. The bad news is I think the country will be un fixable by then.

WE HAVE TO WIN THE SENATE AND HOUSE! It happened in 2020, when voters gave us a red wave, everywhere except for Trump. There are some great GOPs running to replace Ds in the Senate, like in Montana and Ohio. I'm not saying don't vote for Trump, but even if you can't, VOTE GOP DOWN BALLOT.

"The bad news is I think the country will be un fixable by then."

Wrong.

It is already beyond repair. I hear rumblings from Jessie Kelly that there is no way mass deportations are going to be undertaken; 'the american people won't put up with it.' Add to that the handing over of power from Speaker whatshisface to monkeyface; the GOPe is going to, come hell or high water, fuck over the base.\

No matter how pessimistic one is, it is never enough; things can always get worse.

Unfortunately we are doomed. We went past point of no return IMO in 2017 when GOP controlled Congress. Was more important to pass tax cuts. Country is sunk.

Expand full comment

Tax cuts are largely irrelevant. Government spending is some portion of GDP, and we the people who produce needed goods and services get to keep the rest for ourselves. It is government SPENDING that needs to be reduced!

I don't understand how any 2016 Trump voters with an internet connection didn't realize before he was even inaugurated that you weren't getting what you voted for. As a candidate Trump unconditionally promised to build a wall on day 1. If he'd once said, "I promise to ask congress for permission and money to build a wall," he would've been laughed off the stage. In fact Trump should be jailed for suspending the Constitution in March 2020 for a virus and throwing tens of millions of Americans out of work. When you don't deliver on promises you made to get a job-for whatever reason-you resign. Certainly if you care about the country, you don't hang around and start a grievance industry staffed by open borders globalist Jared Kushner. If you read this article by Ann and still "hope Don wins in 2024," why? Trump himself says it takes 5-15 years to fire one bureaucrat, so he can't do it.

Blake had Trump's endorsement in 2022, but lost his Senate bid after Mitch pulled the money out and gave it to Murkowski's campaign. If he gets past Dishonest Abe he'll win the general easily. Solid Republican district.

Good Lord. I think of myself as fairly well informed, but I didn't know most of this. I'll just add him to the other Trump grifters I've stopped following. It's a long list. Heard you on Mark Simone today. Like you, I'm just about ready to throw in the towel...hoping the man maus will ignore me and that things won't completely go to $hit in my lifetime, and concentrating instead on things that give me satisfaction.

The GOP just gifted another $95 billion to foreign nations without a thin dime for border security. Lindsey Graham praised Trump for getting the monstrosity across the finish line. Does it really matter who wins in November?

Take a moment to appreciate Ann's attention to pronouns. Third world immigrants may gain U.S. citizenship, but neither they nor their offspring will ever be Americans. They are not "we"; it is to our shame that we let them lord over us.

Greg, just promise me you will vote straight GOP down ballot. It's the only hope until we can get someone like DeSantis in the White House. He just has to read my book, "In Trump We Trust" to see how it's done. Trump's 2016 CAMPAIGN was magnificent (and he didn't waste time talking about "digital currency" a constitutional convention (TERRIBLE IDEA) or China. IT'S ALL ABOUT IMMIGRATION.

Agreed with Ann. Remember how Pennsylvania was just a little while ago? We had David McCormick running against former heart surgeon Dr. Mehmet Oz. Ultimately we ended up with Senator John Fetterman. This time, Oz didn't run - he wasn't even mentioned. (I think he gave up on PA) This time David McCormick won the primary and he's running against Democrat Incumbent Senator Bob Casey, already in his 3rd term. (Casey's father was also Senator in PA) Dave has the support of Trump. Hoping that doesn't mean anything bad - hoping Philadelphia stays home this year. But Biden and Harris are courting Philly, bringing candy and flowers with every visit. UGH!

There once was a leader named Trump,

Whose support for candidates was a bump.

He'd back those quite unfit,

With a fervent Trumpian wit,

But alas, they all ended with a thump!

The moral dissolution of the right since Trump is impressive: suddenly the right not only defends abhorrent womanizers (Andrew Tate), antizionism and rabid Catholicism (Candace Owens), and just generally boorish behavior because it somehow “sticks it” to the left, but they have rotten candidates to choose from courtesy of their idol. Now add crazy Syrian illegal immigrant to the roster of losers we have to elect. We deserve the swift demise in November the way Constantinople deserved to be taken by the Ottomans, arguing about pointless philosophical and religious trivia while the enemy scaled the city walls. Not even Trump giving his own supporters laced Kool-Aid could convince the right that he’s wrong (although they definitely have drunk SOME Kool-Aid). I guess defeat in November will have to do.

Expand full comment

Not all of the right! I think Trump won the primary because he was essentially the "incumbent" and incumbents always win. Most voters aren't paying attention and would be SHOCKED to discover that it was Trump who shut down the country over COVID, tried to take away our guns and give illegals amnesty (and so on). I lost all my bets (that the candidate wouldn't be Trump) because I thought it would be like 2020, but it was like 1992 - when we could have had Pat Buchanan, but the voters went for the incumbent, Bush 1, who proceeded to lose to Clinton. Totally agree with you on many of those on the "right" though. Stupid people can never help you.

Expand full comment

FURTHERMORE, the Syrian illegal alien hasn't won the primary yet! That's why I wrote this column. There's still time for primary voters to choose the magnificent Blake Masters. Then the GOP would have nearly a half-dozen really smart, really principled members of Congress, which would be a record!

WHY do we allow immigrants to be in Congress???

Ann makes a great case against Abe Hamadeh, whose name I hadn't heard previously. But what has Dinesh D'Souza done to be lumped with Hamadeh or the Vindmans? I'm sure the majority of conservatives recognize the 2020 election was stolen, and the idea of graceful losing by Republicans surely gets a giggle from the likes of Clinton, Obama, and the Bidens.

Expand full comment

"I'm sure the majority of conservatives recognize the 2020 election was stolen"

Just because..... :

*counting was stopped in multiple locations at the same time,

*the counting room was emptied of observers,

*several cases of ballots were pulled out from under tables and the ballots run through the counting machines at least 4 times each,

*Ruby surreptitiously slipped a USB stick to her son,

*a Dem supporter in Philadelphia expressed his disgust at the goings on at the counting room (people being pushed out of the room and cardboard being put up over the windows),

*the Supreme Court refused to hear Texas's case against Pennsylvania (citing menstrual cramps by Justice Roberts, who has subsequently had additional sand inserted into his vagina)....

........doesn't mean the election was anything but fair and square.

Expand full comment

Indeed. If I thought an election was stolen by fraud, I would (and do) call for an investigation, and force a redo of the election if enough fraud is found to make the actual voting result unknowable. The problem with the 2020 presidential election is that all the relevant officials refused to investigate reported fraud in their states. And just now we have Arizona officials charging 18 people with election fraud for asking to begin the investigation into 2020 election fraud and the required procedures such as alternate electors at the time ????????!!

Expand full comment

I understand why so many people think this -- the COVID rules changed everything about voting in 2020 and whichever side lost would have cried foul.

But I would like to try to persuade you again that Trump really lost. There have been ENDLESS investigations, including by hardcore conservatives and Trumpsters.

The biggest apparent fraud was in Arizona. The REPUBLICAN Arizona senate hired a cyber-security firm, Cyber Ninjas, run by a conservative Christian to perform a full audit. Needless to say the Democrats wildly objected but the GOP-controlled senate prevailed. Trump loyalists ponied up millions of dollars for the audit -- if they could just prove that ONE election was stolen that would change everything. You can look all that up easily online.

Cyber Ninjas spend months performing a full recount, reviewing every ballot and every machine. Their conclusion, which you can read here -- https://bloximages.newyork1.vip.townnews.com/azfamily.com/content/tncms/assets/v3/editorial/e/19/e1967608-1d99-11ec-9f0f-c394f7c3dc5f/614e7177ca92c.pdf.pdf -- was that Trump actually got 261 fewer votes than were counted on election night, and Biden got 99 more votes.

AG Bill Barr, also an honorable man childishly smeared by Trump, had U.S. attorneys and local FBI agents investigate suspicious elections. They found cheating -- duh, Democrats cheat - BUT NOT ENOUGH TO CHANGE THE RESULTS OF THE ELECTION.

I know you're disappointed, but so were the white men who voted for Trump in 2016, but didn't in 2020 (the only demographic Trump lost compared to 2016 was WHITES, esp white men). You've got to drop the stolen election nonsense, pick yourselves up and fight another day.

it's nice to hear a logical, rational case stating that... YES ... Trump lost.

but it still bothers me how the Democrats have handled the situation when people asked to hear their concerns addressed.

it might have been possible to have some healing in the nation if the Democrats weren't complete jack-booted, totalitarian thugs.

Expand full comment

thank you for this commentary!

I think Trump lost under the rules that Democrats were able to put into place to favor themselves.

and I wouldn't blindly trust any investigation run by the FBI, or one that is just a recounting of ballots.

the cyber security firm sounds more like something I would trust... at least for that aspect of an investigation.

On can always count on Trump to choose and surround himself with the weakest, most easily compromised sycophants on the block…any flotsam that can’t challenge him or steal his spotlight. Everything is skin deep and has nothing to do with winaability or gravitas.

On the RINO side, we may get winnability and even some superficial gravitas but almost total certainty to be sold down the “Chamber of Commerce sewer” when actual policy is voted.

So choose your liar and choose your flavor of lunacy. Either way, Conservatives and our beloved America get screwed.

And just to prove that many a true word is spoken in jest, the one thing you can take to the bank is Miss Coulter’s advice to heed Scout’s judgement because you will never find a politician as honest, perceptive and trustworthy as a canine…truly, man’s (and woman’s) best friend!
