"The only CNN on-air personality to handle himself worse was Jeffrey Toobin." A single sentence worth the cost of a year's subscription.

It’s a classic Coulter.

And that guy is still prominent on CNN

My nomination would have been "Yes, he was making a difference in his patients’ lives, mostly by shortening them."

I can just picture Ann as she is writing her columns, in mid sentence a burst of invective or hilarity flashes through her mind and she has to take a break -- perhaps laying down on the closest floor -- from giving herself gut busting laughs.

I know I have had that happen to me as I read her columns.....

Writing about Newt having to ask Dole for some money to help him with his ethics problems.... 'it is the first example in history of a human saving an airbag.'

“Lemon’s response: “Do you understand how by saying just that standards are being lowered that you're implying that they're being lowered because people are less skilled and less intelligent, and you're talking about people of color?”

If the above is an incorrect statement, would somebody please explain to me the reason that qualification standards either have been lowered or eliminated for entry to almost everything in this society that requires the least amount of knowledge or competence except incarceration?

It doesn’t matter if they are; it doesn’t matter if they even could be…they were given the degrees and credentials (usually for free) and, therefore think they are what they are pretending to be…give a child an M-16 and a bandoleer of 5.56 and he’s/she’s/it’s a Rambo.

A few years ago a soon-to-be graduate of Mt Sinai in NYC who was to start a highly sought-after dermatology residency accused the selection process for Alpha Omega Alpha( AOA) of racism because blacks were underrepresented. AOA is the medical school equivalent of phi beta kappa. Basic requirement is ranking in the top 15% of one’s class.

The utility of AOA ( apart from a wall decoration) is in obtaining competitive residencies. The complaint came from a double-box checker(black female).

If she were on a line to get into heaven, she would moan about the line.

The civil rights movement gave us affirmative action. It is common to hear conservatives bemoan the latter while extoling the former. We don't seem to understand that compulsory integration of any kind will necessarily displace and diminish white people.

Expand full comment

So, will we admit that Affirmative Action did not work? It was overt racism and helped black doctors’ daughters get into Harvard instead of Howard.

Wrong then and just as wrong now.

Expand full comment

Affirmative action did not work for white people; different story for others. But such is the zero sum nature of compulsory integration: one must lose for the other to gain.

Expand full comment

It did not work. Look at the products!

Keyanji the judge who doesn't know what a woman is- on the SCOTUS! KJP the joke of a press secretary, the ex-Harvard president who got there because of her skin tone and had a plagiarized academic record. Karmela, privileged from birth who is a laughing stock.

These are the fruits of the womb of Affirmative Action. We are not blessed .

They say comedy show is dead because too much politics and never stopping Trump bashing. Indeed, but who cares, we got Ann to keep us laughing really really hard. This time this line "football players and Jared Kushner" - OMG so funny. I don't need comedy show at all. I just read her article and listen to Mark Simone and other shows, and bonus point being I learn politics, too.

My 50 year old son had triple valve heart surgery in Plano, Texas, January 2023. His third surgery-due to congenital aortic stenosis- and pacer dependent since his teens, was performed by 2 surgeons and a cardiac fellow. These physicians SAVED my son’s life, as his aorta ruptured initially and he lost half of his blood volume. Was also on heart/lung bypass for 10 hours. NO ONE

will ever convince me or my SON to lower standards! EXCELLENCE and MERITOCRACY should

not be erased to fill quotas!!!

No organization on earth, not a pack of wolves nor a warren of rabbits can survive by promoting the least capable or even handicapped to positions of importance. The best these useless idiots should have is being allowed to live without contributing. In the entire timeline of human history there’s been a very small span of time that we didn’t cull the worthless if they were incapable of contribution. Now we promote them to make decisions for the productive members of society. That is a recipe for disaster that will soon put us back to ridding ourselves of the burden of the retards.

While there are plenty of high-vis cases where sex/race/sexual orientation trumped competency and merit (say, for instance, Kara Hultgreen flipping her F-14 into the Gulf of Mexico @ 29:30 https://youtu.be/Ly9mvfOh0Fk). There are some not so visible cases which the authorities have buried.

I will relate you just one I'm aware of. My former boss, a lobbyist for a state Chamber, Harvard PhD in economics, gave me this one. During that dustup in Kosovo in '99, I think Clinton was Pres at the time, both my boss and his two children were stationed on an aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean doing real-time translation of radio intercepts, as between them they were fluent in about 9 Slavic languages.

Apparently, the US Major in charge of daily targeting (Belgrade and surrounding areas) was pulled away for a 2-day mandatory sensitivity class. He tried to get out of it, but no. He was replaced by a minority female who promptly had the Chinese embassy in Belgrade bombed the next day.

I don't know how close we came to war with the Chinese at that point, I'd even heard the US did it on purpose because there was a communications center in the basement. But Jesus of Nazareth, why would we risk war with China over a stupid war in eastern Europe? (And aren't we're worse now?)

Anyway, for what it's worth. We now live in a world where competency is a nice-to-have, but not mandatory. Better to hire a blind lesbian Inuit and check as many boxes as possible.

During my school days I was at best an average student. Partially due to working the night shift at UPS & feeling like warmed over death at 8am. I would have loved a pass-fail option luckily for everyone I was not in medical school. Looks like Mr. Limon benefited from the

pass-fail option, he certainly taught a Masters class on how to get fired my Musk.
