If President DeSantis will be serious about immigration, (and by 'serious' I mean mass deportations, finishing the wall and ZERO immigration for a while at least) America has a chance.

Otherwise, look to the UK for a vision of our future.

The problem is that, regardless of who's POTUS, he'll have to contend with the rest of GOP leadership, who are mostly pro-invasion. With friends like these, who needs Democrats?

I keep wondering what, exactly, would have to happen to finally convince the Right to ABANDON the feckless and useless Republican Party. The Right have already been given plenty of cause, IMO. The GOP are in the grip of a corporate mindset that I don't think will ever change.

The Party is in control of the machinery and infrastructure necessary to run and win elections. They also have the machinery and infrastructure necessary to resist third Party efforts. To reproduce that in an effective way for a third Party is a massive undertaking. Most Republicans are decent, hardworking family people who don't have the time to do that, hence we lose to the career politicians, opportunists and traitors who have gained control of the Party from the top down. They don't listen to The People anymore because they don't 'have' to

Similarly, the 'divide and conquer' Dems have settled into a strategy of embracing every single barking lunatic on the planet and giving them a home, both literally and figuratively. The tiny remaining number of sane Dems have been terrorized into silence and feel they have no other place to go.

The big difference is that a HUGE number, I'd say a VAST majority of Republicans loathe the feckless Party management and the direction the Party has been taking. It's therefore reasonable to be optimistic that a suitably passionate populist leader (such as another Trump) could come along and breathe fire into the Republican Party once again. Trump gave a LOT of people great hope at the outset, he just let people down in the end. A similarly passionate populist could conceivably rescue the Republican Party, if that leader stuck to his principles & presided over a MAJOR housecleaning of the Party, something Trump did not do.

I don't believe that there are enough sane Dems anymore where a similar scenario is possible on the Left. They are doomed to continuously try to be more and more extreme every day in an effort to recruit every last nutjob to bolster their flagging numbers. This gives the Republican Party an advantage...but only if it's implemented soon.

I guess I don't believe in the "savior" idea. It sounds like wishful thinking to me.

Exactly. It is unbelievable to me that the sovereign countries of the West have no power or will to prevent mass criminal illegal invasion of their countries. The UK is doomed. The West’s atonement for it’s guilt is suicide! I hear this endless crap about we can’t deport 11 million illegals! It’s not 11 million it’s 30 million and any assertion to the contrary is crap, it’s a lie. How do we deport 22 million or 30 million illegals? Answer: 1 bus load at a time.

I would mostly be in agreement although I'd wish to politely suggest that the West need not atone for anything. Slavery? The massive loss of life in the American Civil War was atonement and reparations enough. Human beings are flawed and to expect perfection from everything they do is illogical; overall, Western Culture has been a massive force of good in the world and we need not apologize. I've heard precisely NOTHING in the way of apology from the various African tribes who enthusiastically propped up slavery at every opportunity, and some still do to this day. Without them, African slavery would never have gotten off the ground in the first place.

Busload-quantity deportations are just fine, but they can easily be a part of a much larger effort such as employment verification which will induce a massive self-deportation of illegals. All it takes is the political will to make it happen.

With or without the problems getting the wall done (caused mainly by Congessional Democrats, I thought), it's pretty apparent to anyone paying attention to anything other than CNN/MSNBC that the border was pretty well tightened up. Is it really only by comparison to the completely open border Biden caused by reversing everything it was that Trump did.

I spoke generally of White Western guilt ridden ‘apologists’, which do not include me. You are so right in that Slavery wasn’t invented by the West. It is referenced in the Bible. 40 whites in a rotting sail driven oversized canoe armed with perhaps 10 muskets and a couple of pistols cannot and did not land in Africa and round up anyone. The slaves were sold into slavery by their ‘brothers’. They were held captive by their ‘brothers of color’ for buyers to bid on and they helped escort their, ‘brothers’ and load their ‘ brothers’ onto the ships bound for the Americas.

The crusades were in large part to protect Christians in their pilgramage to the holy lands. They were laid upon by the Arabs, who robbed, raped ,murdered the pilgrims then took those they wanted, as slaves. The Arabs and the Africans Invented modern day slavery and have never renounced or apologized for it. The West built this world. This world needs the West and without it….

I don't think GOP leadership trusts its constituents. Whenever it senses its own political power being threatened, GOP leadership won't modify its behavior to cater to its voters, but will instead gang up with the Dems for protection. See (among other things): Immigration.
