It's more than a little disturbing that when the GOP Senate can finally muster up the energy to do something, it's to keep money out of the hands of regular Americans who had their rights violated by their government, like the parents who had the audacity to attend school board meetings, and those dangerous Latin mass Catholics (a motley assortment of 80 year-old women and 25 year-old men). At least the GOP Senate never tried to line their own pockets when *their* rights were violated. Oh, wait....

I also think Jan 6 was a Fedsurrection (as long argued by Revolver News), where the worst perps, like Scaffold Commander (the guy on the scaffolding using a bullhorn to urge protestors into the Capitol), were almost certainly government agents, never identified, let alone punished.
Still, Trump mishandled the issue (as he now seems to do with everything), tying it to his case against the IRS and his future freedom from IRS audits. Moreover, I feared the handpicked administrators would be far more likely to allocate funds to Trump loyalists instead of former MAGA supporters (like Owen Shroyer, jailed for five months for standing on the Capitol steps urging people not to go inside) now opposed to Trump's Iran war. Also, payments to legit protestors like Shroyer should come from the pockets of those who organized the Fedsurrection, not the taxpayers.
Agree that Trump shouldn’t put his name on the Kennedy Center. Or anything military related. That should be reserved for actual veterans, post Gerald Ford.
Awesome column, Ann. The January 6 riot was bad, but no comparison with the George Floyd riots. Democrats were behind the scenes instigating racial tensions, while BLM were pocketing the money.
The police do use non lethal "weapons" on these crowds but I would be all for a major UPGRADE to those weapons.....and not to give the survivors a dime. Tell them "it would have never happened if you had been at home!" Next case!!!!!
