I love hearing the Unsafe Substack Podcasts!

1- I can remember when there was the combined smaller Department of Health, Education & Welfare (HEW) - YES, it's time to KILL this department! My sister's 5 kids were home schooled. She didn't get a salary, a pension or any help from the "Department of Education." The kids all learned to read by phonics, and got drilled in math with flashcards. They went to the library, wrote many papers, and went on field trips. They all went to college and further. Not a dead beat in the group. :)

2- YES - time to cut Puerto Rico loose! We shouldn't change our flag from 50 stars (unless CA succeeds) Maybe for Greenland but NOT Canada or Puerto Rico. (Greenland doesn't want to join the USA - actually none of them do!)

3- YES, Ann was dead-right on AMY. No more WO-MEN. (WOE-MEN?) And YES on the death penalty as well. Apparently South Carolina took it up again just last evening. Didn't have to worry about finding a vein as 3 volunteer sharpshooters got the job done fast and efficiently - without any arguments over Propofol, Versed or complaints that the drug "burned." He bludgeoned 2 people to death with a baseball bat.

4- Denver's Congressman Gabe Evans is a rock star! He quickly shut down the mayor ("reclaiming my time") and showed what a louse the mayor was claiming the city's ordinance over the required! standard FBI fingerprint cards. I hope Kash Patel has already followed up on this.

Great presentation tonite Ann. I wholly appreciate your deep dives. Confession: Was a SC fan of Amy Coney Barrett. Am now disappointed in the sell out. (Religiously speaking sell out). Yes. The Dept. of Education (founded in 1980) IS a monstrous swamp of gunk and waste. Drain the swamp. (NICHHS). Personally I believe an appropriate re-assign to be the Office of Civil Rights, Civil Liberties. (Before other “aliens” steal those rights.) The accountability gets lost in the “mess.” I believe some US citizens who are bonafide-ly unable to speak for themselves do NEED bonafide U.S. representation. Not political gamemanship.

The clown show in DC wants those PR votes so bad they can taste it. We also get their corruption and their $35 billion in debt. Sounds like a great idea.

Is Ann losing her fast ball? She left out the elephant in the room when she gave a rundown of Puerto Ricans protesting for their independence. This from Wikipedia: On November 1, 1950 Puerto Rican pro-independence Oscar Collazo and Giselio Torresola attempted to assassinate President Harry S. Truman at Blair House during the renovation of the White House. Both men were stopped before gaining entry. Torresola mortally wounded White House Police officer Leslie Coffelt, who killed him in return fire. Secret Service agents wounded Collazo. Truman was upstairs in Blair House at the time and was unharmed.

Thanks for the info on the Truman assassination attempt. Never knew that & the media doesn't report that because white people aren't the perpetrators!

My sister's kids go to the same schools that my sister and I went to in NY (Long Island). Since we went there, they now have Lunar New Year and Eid Al-Fitr off (who says terrorism doesn't pay, 9/11 is not even recognized on the calendar btw) as well as Spring Break, Winter Break, and summer break and of course "Juneteenth." I am sure the state foisted these holidays upon them. Diwali is only observed. And I am sure that Juneteenth is the only answer the prospective teachers got right on their little test. "What do we call the day that Texas slaves were informed of their emancipation?" Nah, there is no way they would know that. They would certainly answer the day the civil war ended, or the day Lincoln issued the emancipation proclamation. Also, back to the kids, none of them, even the oldest who is 17, know how to write script. I have no idea what their teachers are paid today but I worked at a lending institution in 1992 and saw an application from two physical ed teachers who were making $84,000 (8 years tenure) and $100,000 (12 years tenure) respectively. That would be $187,000 and $223,500 in today's dollars. But as Ann notes, getting rid of the department of education is a heavy lift and won't make it past the Ds. But you can get rid of everything it does that is not statutory. I would send the data collection stuff to the census bureau (which at least has Constitutional origins). The saddest thing of all, listening to the interchange between the Congressman and the Denver Mayor, is that if everyone who should be arrested were, the average person would probably be convinced that Trump and the Rs were going too far.

Beautiful - your voice, your words! Wow! Thank you for sharing that!

All the good you have betrayed,

Without reflection, you will not survive."

Amazing song - and so true!
