Yes, the main problem - although it is a serious problem - is not fentanyl. But it is also not just "illegal" immigration. I have heard far too many politicians say they want to solve the problem by bringing in half the world through "legal" immigration. If we have tens of millions, or hundreds of millions, of non-Americans who do not share our culture coming into this country, then the country will be irrevocably changed, no matter how many legalities they obey on the way in. Just look at what is happening now - the vast majority of "illegal" immigrants are technically legal right now, they have checked in with the border patrol and with the blessing of VP Harris are legally allowed to stay for years until their "asylum" [amnesty] court date, after which they will be "settled" and too cruel to send them back.
And top of “our culture” list is the Constitution which most liberals really do not support and to most immigrants individual liberty translates to FREEBIES!

The political end in mind is an electoral replacement of the flyover State voters. It's electoral disenfranchisement as well as cultural.
Africans now being brought in from Istanbul and elsewhere via Bogota are newcomers. But they will be the minority in the new Third World Not-America being formed by bringing millions of non-assimilating Latin Americans. Spanish is now in more and more ads on television and the Internet. The information on many products is already bi-lingual (si!). All the blacks in advertisements seen now on television and the Internet will eventually be replaced with Latinos in Spanish, so their ranks will also be disenfranchised culturally, but politically they will feel mostly at home since both cultures tend to prefer socialistic/communistic politics.
When the Latino ranks have achieved a critical mass, they will do like Muslims do when their numbers grow to sufficient size in a host country they populate: They take over the governments and culture at the local and national levels.

The United States doesn't need the equivalent of a Gestapo or the federal government dictating education policy. The EPA is filled with climate change lunatics who want to get rid of meat, and dairy, and force everyone into a vegan diet. The CIA should be completely purged. But in the right hands, Homeland Security can be valuable in protecting the borders and preventing a group of rogue individuals or a government plan to import a dirty or clean nuclear weapon and, of course, to ensure the border isn't overrun with poor people from the Third World.
Among other big policy changes I think should be done to create a more muscular, America-first foreign policy and national security, would be the end of birthright citizenship, welfare, and Medicaid for illegal foreigners, and the suspension of any legal representation for illegal aliens who sidestep federal law to gain access to American largesse. All remittances sent to Latin American countries should be heavily taxed. Our ERs, classrooms, jails and prisons, and social services are all being overwhelmed. Easy. Stage a secret raid with SWAT and U.S. Marshall Service when they don't expect it. Everyone is ushered out of the building and every computer and file is confiscated. Then everyone is fired, and leadership is interrogated. The president can organize it away from bugs eavesdropping.
