People like Meadows and Sessions who are intelligent, effective, and have seen the game played so many times should have known better. I say that knowing that I would've also probably taken the bait in 2016, enamored with someone who was so unapologetic and incredible on policy. But after a few years of the failed promises and nepotism and chaos and inability to effectively govern and create strong alliances (the opposite of Reagan in every way)...the signs were all there that it would end very badly. That doesn't make the persecution of any of these guys ok (including the chief clown himself), but it doesn't change the fact that Trump's character and the things he does/says will always lend themselves to this kind of garbage. You think Romney or Pence or Cotton would be involved in these types of lawsuits and allegations? Making up false claims about a stolen election and sowing all kinds of distrust while calling everyone names and refusing to turn over classified documents? No. He brings this stuff on himself but he's smart and plays the victim to keep the grift alive.
