I think there was actually another protester who was killed (besides Ashli Babbett). another woman was knocked unconscious outside, and while she lay in the street one of the cops beat her to death with a pole.

the govt says she overdosed, but the family's medical examiner says the cause of death was being crushed by the crowd.
however, neither suggested cause of death excuses the DC police officer who beat her about the head with a stick while she lay unconscious in the street, or the fact that this DC police officer apparently left her unconscious in the street where she was crushed by the crowd.
