Does it matter who Republicans back if they can’t win the ballot harvesting game? Dems could put up a slew of Fettermans and still win every race. Feels old school to talk about candidate quality anymore.

And yet, somehow, Republicans NOT backed by Trump all keep winning DESPITE DEM'S DIRTY TRICKS.

Maybe Trump is the problem not Democratic "ballot harvesting."

Not sure I agree with this. Fetterman was an extremely weak candidate and Oz was not terrible. It did not matter. Races are going to come down to who can best harvest votes, a true corruption of elections, and Democrats have a big advantage since their crops are concentrated in urban areas. Easier to harvest in urban areas, ironically. There are many potential Republican voters sitting at home in rural areas. Republicans should play same game and figure out how to get a ballot to these people or they will be at big disadvantage

I have to agree with Peter, Ann. The difference between Orange County, CA in 2018 and 2020 was that in the second election the Republicans had woken up to Democratic ballot harvesting and changed their electoral tactics.

Even with Trump on the ballot in 2020 the GOP regained ground they had squandered through ignorance of Dem tricks in 2019.

He doesn't help with high frequency, college educated voters, independents or women. Ballot harvesting outside churches, gun shows isn't a bad idea in states where that is allowed though.

Expand full comment

It's more than just ballot harvesting. Democrats dump enough fraudulent ballots into machines in single party cities like Philadelphia to steal an election.

Why don’t Republicans wake up and play the same game? Instead we waste time screaming election integrity- while they win.

I keep saying that. Let’s win first by any means necessary then change system back to one ballot on one day at one polling station.

At this point, I agree. Why not? My answer would have been: because the press and Ds would blow gaskets hypocritically ignoring what they have done and prosecuting to the ends of the earth anyone they can get their hands. They will do anyway as we since with Jan 6, Trump Russia, Impeachments 1&2. We may as well give them something to really squeal about. But even still, I would rather us stop them from cheating. It is neither here nor there anyway because the Rs don't have the guts to do either. The Rs better up their game either way. If they worked harder to get out their vote they might still have a chance. Instead they pay hacks to produce and run crap commercials on channels only the choir watches. I swear if someone produced commercials in English and Spanish showing Biden and his freakshow destroying the country, it might wake a lot of folks who call themselves Ds up. But you are not going to reach them running ads on Foxnews.

Because unlike the Democrats we don't control big cities like Philadelphia where you can dump hundreds of thousands of illegal ballots without being noticed. You can't pull the same stunt in small rural district with only few thousand registered voters.

They could set up ballot boxes outside churches, gun shows, country concerts and NHL hockey games.

Most of those people vote, though. Dems are grabbing ballots of people that don’t.

You are right about the Ds. I even think it is worse, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the folks they got to vote didn't know they voted (and I am not just talking about the infirm). You'd be surprised how many Rs don't vote. I am originally from NY so I checked Lee Zeldin's race for Governor- a lot of voters from upstate didn't vote, even some from LI. If the Rs did better than simply match D percentages, they could have won. Jessica Haire had a shot in AA county MD as well if a few more folks turned out. I do think if Rs play the early voting mail in game, they may get some of those who might not bother to vote otherwise. They might also convince some of those "my vote doesn't matter" types. Who knows?

Boy I would like the chance to lace up my skates and wheel up my SherWood PMP 5030 wooden stick and whiff a slapper past her ear.

No, they were down 3 - 0, to the Pittsburg Penguins who had home ice advantage, and won the series in Pittsburgh 1 - 0 on a third period goal by Captain Eddie Westfall. (Wrist shot from the left face off circle with 5 minutes to go.)

lol..... You think I would have gotten that right! lol

The Morrow goal against the Rangers was pretty sweet, too.... and Tonelli's game winner against Pittsburgh.....and Nystrom's Cup winner...

All overtime goals, it is as though they couldn't wait to get the game over with so they could play in overtime..... lol

Where do you live, Mike? You sound extremely simpatico.

saskatoon, sask, canada. pop 200,000 or so. I could never live in or near a megopolis.

I don't much follow hockey anymore, the last game I watched was the St Louis cup winning game. I lost interest when I saw the piped in crowd noise as teams played to empty covid arenas and now I care even less thanks to the DEI broad.

Hockey hasn't been the same since the instigator rule, which would have prevented Marchand from getting anywhere near a hockey arena, and then CBC fired Don Cherry for saying 'you people'

So lets see if I have this straight: a sport where the Broad Street Bullies pummelled their way to 2 straight cups, where O Reilly can go overboard [LITERALLY!], where Gillies protected Bossy and Semenko protected Gretzky with fisticuffs....now 'you people' is seen as too much..... no thanks.

George Soros is God's proof that only the good die young. Apparently the opposite is also true.

And wasn't Kim Foxx Jussie Smollett's bestest buddy? The democrats are the people you hire when you need a placeholder in office. So much respiration, so little work.

Another splendid column.

Ann, may I suggest you invite Pedro Gonzalez onto your next video podcast? He’s doing great work battling the paid Trumpbots on Twitter, forcing them to confront the reality of the man’s failures in office, just as you did so courageously to Trump himself in the White House.

If you agree I volunteer to help you with rhyming -- over a steak dinner in NYC, of course.

Good column. I'm big for DeSantis. Vivek Ramaswamy is saying all the right stuff, too.

But technically, with regard to DACA, before Obama was President the CFR allowed people with any kind of grant of deferred action to get work permits if they submitted a statement of economic necessity. What Obama did was take that tiny snippet of regulation (8 CFR § 274a.12(c)(14)) and make it possible for certain young people to "apply" for a grant of deferred action, which is why the DACA application includes a form that is a statement of economic necessity.

Excellent points. Trump should have immediately fired the entire top several floors of the FBI and CIA and NSA and DoJ and then never bothered to nominate anyone to replace them and refused to sign any budget with any funding for them.

Why does the US have a federal department of Justice? Aren't police powers the province of the States?

And he should have known that Pence was pushed to be VP for the same reason HW was pushed to be Reagan's VP. Reagan wasn't supposed to survive the attempt.

Pence eradicated the Trump Administration when he got Flynn fired.

And the Deep State just carries on as usual.

Proof that DeSantis is doing a great job? The nitwits over at Gateway Pundit, led by gay pedophile Jim Holt, are now bleating nonstop about how DeSantis is "EVIL". Why? He didn't stand up for their boy-god Trump. Forget the fact that Trumpy has been calling DeSantis names for weeks (and to his credit, Ron ignores him). Personally, I like my politicians and candidates unindicted.

Thank you for sharing your perspective Ann. “Don’t run for the job if you have no intention of doing it”. Great point. Similar to being a parent and undertaking all the super unpopular viewpoints and opinions slung when losing the parental popularity contest. It’s a tough job, needs a tough as nails person(s) and really does not take a village, but serious common sense and hard work ethic.

lol...... [ps you should change your initial to YYZ, also off Moving Pictures]

I despise Ozzy (and especially Sharon). The only thing he ever had going for him was Randy Rhoads, died March 19th 1982, Leesburg Florida.

Randy was gorgeous and had a hairdo that rivals Ann's, not to mention spectacular chops for a 24 year old (when this was filmed).

https://youtu.be/mSfNvTVEALw?t=192

I did the pilgrimage to Leesburg when I went to see the [ postponed !!!!!] shuttle take off in 2010 and then to his burial plot in San Bernadino the day after I saw Ann give a talk at the Pacific Club in Newport Beach, 2017.

And I still think Trump will win...... lol and I appreciate your gentle repartee :-)

Love the musical references- Even though Witch Hunt is on Moving Pictures, it is still what I would consider "high Rush" few can name songs from side 2! Might I suggest Crazy Train for Trump rallies? Randy's solo still plays in my head after all these years. And while I do not think Trump is crazy per se, there is a crazy "feel" to his campaigning...
