Vintage Ms. Coulter.........and that's why I keep coming back for more.

Thanks Ann......

Frankly speaking, Vivek is the only one that I'm interested in hearing what he has to say. Everyone else is too measured, too calculated, and way too milquetoast. I don't think he will win the nomination, but he's interesting to listen to, and that's all a debate is, blather.

For DeSantis, it's almost make or break.

But if any of them spends their time bashing Trump, instead of outlining their vision (ideally vicious vision), then they can leave the stage right then.

The election is going to be rigged anyway (if it occurs at all), so talking is the only "product" they have to offer, better do it well, or America will tune out!

Start sounding like Pence, or Jeb, or Romney, or any of the other boring, 1984 Republicans, and you might as well retire; Americans are sick of that boiler-plate bullshit!

Expand full comment

I don't think people are quite as sick of boring after Trump. If the country was smarter and had elected Romney in 2012 we would've never had to deal with chaos clown Trump in the first place. He's damaged the conservative cause and I don't know that we can overcome that just yet.

One thing we could do is NOT have Fox ask any questions about Trump. Let the liberal media marinate in their Trump obsession and ask the candidates about ISSUES. No wonder Trump doesn't need to show up: He can count on Fox to make it all about him anyway.

Romney snatched defeat out of jaws of victory. He allowed Democrats to define him, never hit them back and during the last week before elections, suspended the campaign all together. In essence, Romney was a perfect example of controlled opposition. After him and McCain, conservatives wanted a breath of fresh air and nominated Donald J Trump for president.

Expand full comment

I don’t disagree in the slightest. I voted for the idiot twice. And the first time I was excited to haha.

Expand full comment

Romney blew it.

Besides, that’s when Obama was getting 100% of the vote in select districts, without a single “voter” making a mistake on their ballot…

Democrats have been using Chicago style vote/vote counting, in those supposed Blue Cities for a very long time.

They underestimated Trump, otherwise he never would have won.

The GOP will never win another presidential election until they get it fixed.

This election season is kabuki theater mixed with reality TV, nothing more.

Enjoy the decline, and accelerate!!

Romney did blow it. I worked on his campaign and I'll never understand that. He listened to his advisors after his great performance in the first debate where he came out fighting and then AFTER A LEAD IN THE POLLS FROM THAT took their stupid advice and decided to take it easy on Obama for the last few.

Expand full comment

Yep, I remember it well.

It wasn't until years later that I came to hate Romney like I do now, but at the time, he was still better than Obama.

All good advice, Ann. Unfortunately, the questions will probably be phrased to elicit that very kind of saccharine response.

Mayor Giuliani was the one to make me realize what I wanted from a politician - the one who create safe community. Without safety we just can't live and sustain good life. While media was constantly running anti Giuliani circus as usual, I thought I just didn't give a crap about whatever he might have had going on personally. But just how he cleaned up the city and made it livable. So I have no interest in politician's personal affairs in the end, at least not the most important thing to say at the opening of the debate. Thanks Ann for making it super clear.

Bullseye, Ann. All that feel-good stuff is just the refuge of a weenie!

Vivek sounds good...too good...he is the candidate that is "too measured, too calculated".

Read his business history...made his money by getting rich on other people's money while creating nothing except one unmet promise/expectation after another. Sounds all too familiar.

Despite the barrage of media propaganda, this election is still DeSantis' to lose.

What we presently know about DeSantis is that he does what he says he will do which is very refreshing.

Now, let's see if DeSantis has learned from his early missteps and gives himself a makeover from a state contender to a national candidate.

Have an open and honest mind about how far off the election is and at a similar point in 2015, those very few of us who supported Trump were derided as pipe-dreamers by the majority of politically aware people.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I'd love to see DeSantis come out on stage like a man on fire, maybe kick over his podium, and lunge for Pence's throat, while screaming that he is a traitor that deserves to die... but I'm not expecting it. (yes, I know Pence won't be there)

Maybe part of Ann's point is these guys need Trumps fire, his brash, in-your-face, take no prisoners, break every egg to make that omelette, (but tactfully) anti-establishment rhetoric.

But I don't think he has it in him, and whomever is advising him, is making him appear worse!

I think they are ALL trying too hard to be "Not Trump" and are therefor running into the boring., lackluster, generic politician territory.

Here's what I want to hear-

Impeachment, Criminal Charges, Arrest, Convict, and Hang Traitors, Gut the Federal Government by closing more of it than you keep open, Deport EVERY Illegal, and arrest everyone that abetted them, close about 800 over seas military bases, and declare martial law in every city that refuses to arrest, convict, and send to prison, criminals!

Basically, dictator-lite.

The same old same old, isn't enough vigor for anyone that matters.

The election will still be stolen, might as well go down swinging!

<<Maybe part of Ann's point is these guys need Trumps fire, his brash, in-your-face, take no prisoners, break every egg to make that omelette, (but tactfully) anti-establishment rhetoric.>>

Ann's point is: DON'T LISTEN TO CAMPAIGN CONSULTANTS. Run on immigration and crime. Please read "in Trump We Trust" for further details.

Fair enough, sorry for misunderstanding your point.

What do you think of all that debate guidance posted by those PAC consultants?

They told him to offer an anecdote about his wife and kids…

If he does it, I’ll give $50 to Cole!

No real reason, just having fun with it!

From what you just wrote it sounds like you want a President who would follow the Constitution as written; enforce the existing laws and put America/Americans first.

Seems that we are presently living dictator-life in our cozy woke totalitarian state.

Seems reasonable.

Expand full comment

If DeSantis can focus on issues we want to hear him talk about (inflation, immigration) rather than all the woke stuff, I agree. He has the record and the ability to effectively communicate. But anti-woke isn't going to get him the presidency. He needs to follow Ann's advice and campaign exactly like Trump did in 2016, but he can also point out that he has a record of doing what he says he's going to while Trump has the opposite.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree.

I may be mistaken but I would think DeSantis somehow has to put the abortion issue behind him and the sooner the better because his opposition will never let it go.

Not being privy to internal numbers, I have no idea what effect his abortion position has on likely DeSantis voters and sideliners who could easily be swayed to come out and vote in favor of DeSantis.

Perhaps those who are upset by his abortion position would never vote for him under any circumstances.

The only thing I have reasonable certainty about is, as you say, He Will Do What He Says He Will Do.

Yes -- talk about unforced errors! The media would love nothing more than to make the entire election about abortion. DeSantis needs to block that by saying what pro-lifers have been saying forever: THE CONSTITUTION SAYS NOTHING ABOUT ABORTION. Congress has no constitutional authority to regulate it. Not a federal issue.

Expand full comment

The key question which Bret Baier should ask is “if you are president and Congress passes a law authorizing more liberal abortion rights, nationally, would you veto that bill?” A president who understands that Dobbs was the right decision, constitutionally, could still answer that he would not veto a bill passed by Congress. Put personal morals aside. What the people want is what they will/should get and such a position is faithful to the law/ Constitution.

That is a very grounded reaction that almost no one ever says. Most of us take offense at the performative pomposity and humble-bragging of these politicians instead of at the very real condescension they exhibit.

True, we did elect Trump, but that SHOULD have taught us a lesson about a rich, anti-establishment type, with no political experience: We have no basis for expecting such a man to keep his promises. With no track record, they could be all hot air. As the last one was.

I learned from Trump, much to my dismay, that you need a professional politician if you expect to get things done. Trump had no political skills and it showed.

I respectfully disagree. Trump had certain qualifications ( not a swamp creature/lifetime politician) but his personality and intellect were deficient. Vivek is of a different breed. Not saying I am all in for him, of course.

I can't believe anyone is talking about "elections" (or "primaries", or "polls"), unless it's to talk about how rigged they are. "Candidates" are all just a bunch of actors, reading scripts.

Expand full comment

Florida's elections weren't "rigged." Nor New York's -- Zeldin lost, but brought in a GOP congress by getting so many other GOPs elected. You think Dems didn't cheat in the 1980s? They cheated in the 1960s! But Reagan won 2 landslide elections - 3 if you count Bush 1, who won by being RR's 3d term.

It was this exact argument (from Trump) that cost us 2 senate seats from GA in Jan 2021. DON'T BOTHER VOTING, FOLKS! IT'S ALL RIGGED. (Republican gov goes on to win huge victory 2 years later.)

Expand full comment

I don't know anything about New York, but just having GOP's elected doesn't mean they will function as GOP's. I'm in Texas, where dem's are firmly in control, even with a GOP majority. Dade Phelan is giving committee chairmanships to Dem's, and the Rep's are going right along with it. They might have had a relatively clean election, but TPTB get together and overturn it later.

And we are way past the 80's. TPTB used Bush/Gore as pretense to usher in "computerized voting machines" that are accessed from the internet to flip votes by the thousands. Not across the board, but just enough to look like a close outcome, to where the globalist operatives can still take over.

And the hell with Trump. He was in on it the whole time.

Expand full comment

Spot on as always. What made Trump popular in 2016 was that he took stances on issues that were popular with voters. This GOP has never understood (or, I suspect, wanted to understand) this. The DeSantis campaign especially seems to have forgotten this, which is a real shame. The way he could get Trump’s name out of the headlines and his name in the headlines would be to make a stand on some popular issues, because almost nobody running for President on the Republican side ever does this. I think he still has time to fix this, but not a whole lot of time. Vivek seems to understand it and he might be the guy.

I agree. The only way Heavy D should talk about Trump is to attack him for not building the wall, not deporting illegals, not ending anchor babies, not making Mexico pay for the (non-existent) wall, not pushing through e-verify, etc etc etc.

those are ISSUES.

Ann, as always, excellent content. Too bad there are no republicans that are able to listen, I mean really listen. I put down my cigar and coffee and pray to God that at least one republican would implement just some of the suggestions offered here. But I fear the heavens are made of brass. And most likely for good reason, that being there are none who have not been tainted with corruption, rendering them to a state of deafness.

I think we as a nation are at the point where it's every state for themselves. Desantis has been draining the corrupt swamp here in Florida, and I am thinking it might be next to impossible to accomplish the success he's had as governor if he does end up entering Washington DC. I don't believe anyone can survive that......considering the level of today's national decay.

It was during Reagan's watch that the bill giving pharmaceutical companies no liability for all vax injuries was passed. I would say we are in our present predicament today because of this. So claiming Mr. Reagan was our greatest president is shortsighted. The pass for Big Pharma was one of the most egregious events in American history even worse than 9/11.

To Ann's point- "I don't have the time to talk about my family. This country has real problems. Joe Biden (or insert replacement here because I think they will Torricelli him and put Newsom in) and the Democrats have put the country on the express path to destruction. They have opened the flood gates to millions of illegal immigrants. They are destroying the value of the dollar and make everyone poorer. They are sticking us with the bill for foreign wars when it is time for Europe and others to defend themselves. My grandfather served in WWII - he died thirty years ago. Enough is enough. They are forcing green new deal schemes on us that will do nothing while they let their friends in the Chinese Communist Party off the hook. They have corrupted and destroyed the justice system in Washington and across the county. They have brought back crime like it was the 70s all over again. They are destroying the lives of millions of young people by failing to educate them for the future and teaching them to play the victim as if that was a job skill. They are doing all this and more. And worse, too many Republicans and too many folks on this stage are going along for the ride. Forget about making America great again, let's make it livable again and work from there. That's what I intend to do"

Yes, Myriad Mike, I think Vivek is the only candidate likely to come out with a forceful presentation of the good stuff he will do. Whether people will like it or not (I am not wild about some of his ideas), remains to be seen. Maybe Christie will put up a fight but he is too much of a blowhard. DeSantis has lost his luster/mojo tilting at cultural windmills and will be hard-pressed to get it back. All candidates should pay attention to the abortion issue. That, alone, dooms Pence. Regardless of how a candidate personally feels, the majority of Americans do not favor restricting abortion. You need the majority of people to get elected.
