This article is an hysterical denunciation of Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” law (that never uses the word “gay”). First, let’s look at the actual legislative language:
Florida educators …
Shall not intentionally provide classroom instruction to students in prekindergarten through grade 3 on sexual orientation or gender identity.
Shall not intentionally provide classroom instruction to students in grades 4 through 12 on sexual orientation or gender identity unless such instruction is either expressly required by state academic standards or is part of a reproductive health course or health lesson for which a student’s parent has the option to have his or her student not attend.
Shall not discourage or prohibit parental notification of and involvement in critical decisions affecting a student’s mental, emotional, or physical health or well-being unless the individual reasonably believes that disclosure would result in abuse, abandonment, or neglect ….
Shall not harass or discriminate against any student on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, national or ethnic origin, political beliefs, marital status, handicapping condition, sexual orientation, or social and family background ....
Stacy Ritter (president of “Visit Lauderdale!” - but in this article you’d think she’s the mayor) knew she had to do something big to distinguish Fort Lauderdale from Ron DeSantis.

HE’S BEEN “ATTACKING” LGBTQ+ RIGHTS! HE’S MAKING “FORAYS” AGAINST QUEER AND TRANS PEOPLE!
RESULT: 18 whole conferences canceled (according to Ritter). Meanwhile …

Who’s Karen Tongson?
The Visit Lauderdale team has spent about $790,000, including registration and materials for the float [the 2023 Rose Parade], to bring its creation to life.
Wasting taxpayer money on a parade float is “DEFYING DESANTIS”!
Moreover, Ritter said, the float will feature community leaders such as Miss Florida Seminole Thomlynn Billie, who described Visit Lauderdale’s message as “powerful.”
Who is Miss Florida Seminole Thomlynn Billie?
And if Thomlynn Billie won’t bring in the tourists, I don’t know what will.
