Replace the word "tourism" with "immigration" here ...
Bali has a right to be Bali all the time, but we don't have a right to be America, ever.
A New York Times article about how tourists are messing up other people’s countries perfectly describes how most Americans feel about the permanent tourists messing up our country.
I’ve taken the liberty to switch out the word “tourism” for “immigration” in the Times article:
“All immigration is dependent on beautiful natural and cultural resources. You have to protect those resources … and if you don’t, they degrade,” Ms. Epler Wood said.
[D]estinations need to find ways to counteract what Ms. Epler Wood calls “the invisible burden” of immigration, which includes strains on a community’s infrastructure, utilities and housing stock, as well as immigrants’ carbon footprint and any challenges they might impose on residents’ daily lives.
“You put so much pressure on the place that the people who live there become unhappy…,”
The photo reminded me of a group wearing Burkas and swimming at Virginia Beach. In another life I owned a kayak touring company, two couples from ( Iran I believe) rented two tandem boats. The women wore Burkas covering every thing but their eyes, the men shorts and flops. Yes the women paddled like hell and the men sat there smoking cigarettes. No I’m not joking.
Hilariously serious! I hereby dub this “Coulter’s M/Ad Libs” …would love to see this technique applied to other public policy ridiculousness
