You warned GOP Senators about Roberts BEFORE he was confirmed. Why didn't they listen?!

Heather's avatar

She did the same with the papist nut. This is all so pathetic.

Helios Megistos's avatar

Anyone who adopts Haitian orphans is a nut whether papist or not!

Another classic Ann. This travesty is more than fifty years in the making ending with the decision yesterday. Congress should have dealt with this long ago. Roberts could have grandfathered certain people and punted to Congress or done any number of mealy mouthed things that did not enshrine birthright, but they didn't because they were afraid of the insane left. We are already doomed I fear as there are tens of millions of young people, whether citizens or not already electing people who hate and want to destroy this country. Add to that perhaps a million or more Chinese anchor babies waiting to claim their birthright and further the destruction. Not to mention the hundreds of thousands that Trump himself believes we need to keep our treacherous universities afloat. I am sure we'll get a ton more anchor babies out of that as well. As I have questioned before, how do you say "Adios America" in Chinese?

John Gault Shrugged's avatar

If my wife and I were to travel to Italy and she was 7 months pregnant and went into labor, the child would be considered an American citizen, not Italian. Italy would not recognise the child as an Italian citizen.

BTW: Comparing Slaves to illegal aliens is insane. Blacks were American. Blacks fought for the Union army, and souther blacks fought for the Confedercy during the civil war.

Canada, yes Canada, even got sick of the Chinese anchors, and changed their laws to deny citizenship.

These bum fence jumpers have no allegiance to the U.S.

Michael Zilkowsky's avatar

Babylon Bee dealt with that yesterday, saying that the Supreme Court ruled that anyone who gives birth in Olive Garden is now an Italian citizen.

John Gault Shrugged's avatar

Great……I’m a member so I’ll have to check it out.

MikeCLT's avatar

Roberts and Barret could have at least joined Kavanaugh saying it is up to Congress to define citizenship instead of by EO. But no, they have to go to Georgetown cocktail parties.

Peter's avatar

This to me was the most frustrating aspect. I honestly thought the court was going to do exactly that, giving some breathing room to let political process play out

Kevin Murphy's avatar

To be counterintuitive, maybe Trump should be for birthright citizenship then liberals would be against it?

WheelHorseman's avatar

John Roberts is just such a jackwagon. What is it that makes one-time conservatives turn squishy once they get power and independence? Little tin-plated dictators who turn tail on principles and go with the flow. I hope God judges him harshly, because to whom much is given, much is expected, and he has fallen short on so many occasions, this latest being one of the worst examples. Thanks for writing this on-point essay, Ann.

I am sure that our brave Republican representatives and senators will enact legislation protecting us from pregnant women

We are dead

JBK's avatar

Use VISAS!! Restrict restrict restrict!!

Ann Coulter's avatar

visa restriction does nothing about illegals, only tourists and students.

JBK's avatar

Those "tourists" and "students" by the hundreds of thousands (at least) BECOME illegal...by overstaying visas. We do not have an enter/exit system in place that I know of....and if Visas were restricted suddenly to women of child bearing years or already visibly pregnant they could not come here to have a citizen. Or you could tack on a huge fee on the Visas , a huge fee, for those coming for "birth tourism". We already know the "offending" countries. Can you imagine the lefts screams because this would affect all women coming here, even those that are not here to "have a citizen". The Supreme Court then might look at birthright citizenship a little closer because THEY would be to blame for the backlash they created. Also every shyster immigration lawyer knows every loophole, every different visa, to check and try to get their "clients" any reason to delay or stop deportations...which includes illegals and legals already here. Who is paying for this I can only guess but the shysters are not doing it for free...free maybe to the low income, if any income, illegals but it is being done regardless. No stone should not be overturned to look at any possibility ...the problem is MASSIVE.

Michael Zilkowsky's avatar

Sundance over at Conservative Treehouse offered an excellent suggestion yesterday. Specifically, the State Department should immediately implement policies -- negative pregnancy tests, shortened visas -- that will make entry into the US extremely difficult and cumbersome, and then attribute all the policies to Roberts, personally. Let him eat the shit the Rest of the World throws at the US for being so mean to worthless non caucasian scraps of garbage (my characterization, not his).

JBK's avatar

Attack the VISAS.....been saying it for years though both parties IGNORE them for the most part. Now you can use them and a court order/review will not be necessary...though the leftist will try try try.....

Ann Coulter's avatar

we need the Great Wall of China around the country (and California).

Michael Zilkowsky's avatar

your measured response leaves me without a reply because it is far more reasonable than anything running around in my head at this point. As reasonable and practical and doable as is Sundance's suggestion, there is no one in the State Dept that will actually do it.

This was another Lucy pulling away the football moment, with anyone with a hint of sense thinking that there is no way the Supremes can let this stand. Now the next solutions have been pushed off into the future.... 'congress can do something' 'convention of States' 'constitutional amendment' in the same fashion as everything else Trump promised being sometime down the road (the wall, the Iran war will be over in two weeks, we destroyed their nuclear program, gas prices will fall).

ObamaCare still lives 16 years later despite GOP promises to scrap it; how many anchor babies can be dropped in 16 years.....?

Somewhere out there, a Timothy McVeigh is looking at the blueprint of Marvin Heemayer's bulldozer. If the point of civil society is to have a government to protect its citizens and settle their disputes but the government steadfastly refuses to do either of those things, then the Wild West should be at least given a chance.

Please understand I am not arguing with you. You have the rational position, mine is just a few sentences of frustration.

JBK's avatar

You are right Michael...and yes Ann wrote the books, articles on this problem and knows the problem. But I only believe the "action" when I see the "action" implemented . When I look at Congress I see fear...inaction...people not ready to see or attack a problem, much less LISTEN.....they are not affected (yet) by these problems us average Joes see and live with everyday.

Michael Zilkowsky's avatar

"But I only believe the "action" when I see the "action" implemented"

If Koresh had done as much time with his people on the range as he did buying guns in the first place, that could have been a turkey shoot. His guys should have been laying in the ditches, lined up with the horse trailers that the ATF guys arrived in. Then, like in the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan, as soon as the doors opened.......not a single one of them would have been left standing.

Its not much fun when the rabbits got the guns.

Gonczoe's avatar

“And California.” 👍😂

Anne's avatar

This is truly sickening and I hope it can be reversed by Congress somehow. Slaves were brought here, they were not illegal.

Ann Coulter's avatar

We need a new supreme court justice fast! But not for Thomas, Alito or Gorsuch. Or Kavanaugh, though he tried to stake a middle ground, I assume attempting to sway the demon Roberts. I just wish Roberts had to experience what he has just inflicted on Americans who live in places like Springfield Ohio, rather than McLean, Va.

Dan Sargis's avatar

Although it’s pretty obvious that you have good intentions, I feel compelled to warn you against holding your breath waiting for a Congress especially a republican Congress that can’t even pass a voter ID law doing anything about birthright citizenship, except fundraising for their own reelections

BookWench's avatar

Yes, we cannot depend on Congress to do much of anything worthwhile.

Mark Campbell's avatar

Roberts is gaining on Earl Warren for the title of Worst, Most Destructive Chief Justice of the Past Century+. If he keeps at it he will overtake "SuperChief" (title of a PBS - of course - bio on Warren). And to think, both of them were appointed by Republican presidents. Adios, America.

Ann Coulter's avatar

Amazing but true. Warren never did anything this destructive.

Although he, along with FDR, was responsible for Japanese internment. J Edgar Hoover opposed the internment. Never believe anything they tell you about Hoover. But even that was better than this. Roberts is turning all of America into an internment camp.

Penn's avatar

So now let's all put our heads together and figure out a way around this, shall we? Offer all the sophisticated, nuanced, legal bullshit imaginable. This wasn't about the law it was in furtherance of the drive to destroy America.

How about this?... there is NO way around this. It's done, it's finished , it's over. I'd rather not hear about a constitutional amendment or statutes enacted by congress or visa restrictions or any other pipe dream. None of this will happen. This is final and there is no way out, except secession. Does anyone think a truly conservative or a simply patriotic court, with American justices, or if nothing else, just an 'Honorable Supreme Court' is surely to return at some point? The answer is NO. This is our last conservative court. So happy I could be alive to witness.

Everyone knows I hope that all these anchor babies no matter where they are now will at age 18 be able to petition for immediate family members as legal immigrants. They are all eligible to run for public office including President. They are all eligible to join our military and attain rank. They are all eligible for everything and we have no say. Amnesty is next. It's over.

PS: But don't stop with the comments (or the columns Ann.) A lot of them are great and I need the laughs.

Jim Coulter's avatar

Our democratic system gives us idiots who appoint idiots like Roberts to SCOTUS, etc.. When the political system is predicated upon the intelligence and good character of the majority but the majority has none of either, the nation is necessarily committing suicide.

FDR, our first democratically elected president, took office in Jan, 1933. So after 93 years, we are facing certain civilizational death with no chance of averting it. Canada, Britain and other democracies are a few decades older which is the reason they're closer to the end.

Michael Zilkowsky's avatar

"Canada, Britain and other democracies are a few decades older which is the reason they're closer to the end."

Canada, today, celebrates its national birthday, 1867, long long after the US had won its independence. Indeed, I remember watching Amistad, and I believe the scene was in a courtroom in the 1830s..... and thinking to myself that the US already was well up and running before Canada even got its snow shoes on.

Canada has many reasons for failure; age is not one of them.

Jim Coulter's avatar

Not age, but years as a democracy.

Dan Sargis's avatar

Yes, and despite the liberals turning FDR into some type of a supernatural deity, all he managed to do was to fill DC with a bunch of Stalinists that we’re selling America down the drain

Talmadge Wells's avatar

Ann's bottom line should be President Trump's next Executive Order, as it has as much chance to become reality as most all of his others.

Satan using Communists using Liberals using immigrants to destroy America and the very concept of Nation States, and God using it all to see who’s who 😇

Helios Megistos's avatar

The Court hath spoken — and the nation sighs,

Roberts hath raised the gate with solemn hand;

The “free money” beacon burns beneath the skies,

And birthright crowns the child of foreign land.

Yet Thomas stands, a Titan in dissent,

With Dred Scott’s shadow haunting every page;

He says the Fourteenth’s deepest force was meant

To free the slave, not rewrite the modern age.

He brings the statutes, letters, laws of old,

The voices of a century long gone;

While scanty proofs the judgment dare uphold,

And ancient doubts are brushed aside at dawn.

The Wong Kim Ark case Roberts calls his guide,

Yet there the parents held a lawful home;

Not every stranger crossing the tide

Was promised citizenship beneath our dome.

From Britain’s subjects came no American crown;

The Revolution cast that doctrine down.

The border states cry out, their powers restrained,

Their barriers broken, their pleas ignored in vain.

Thus parchment, precedent, and history fight —

A Republic arguing through the night.

Victoria's avatar

You know to the general public this decision was thought to be the wrong one and troubling. Particularly to those of us who believe opening the border to anyone in the wide world no matter who was the biggest betrayal to the US since Benedict Arnold! However, it never enters our mind that the decision which we find troubling is resonating throughout the legal world like a nuclear bomb! And I love what you have to say in reaction to the ruling!! You are priceless!

I also have to add that your comment on what to do with Roberts made me laugh out load -- of course I was giggling anyway by the time I got to that point!!!

Carry on, Ann - don't ever stop!!!
