Chicago area school's plan to grade students based on race hits road block: People found out about it.
Sorry to keep banging away at this, but the Oak Park and River Forest High School’s proposal for grading student on a racial curve has now turned into a classic example of a media “FACT CHECK!”
Fact Check: Chicago High School Will NOT Use Race-Based Grading System
The headline and first 800 paragraphs of the “FACT CHECK!” above say: FALSE! DO NOT BELIEVE THE STORIES! IT’S JUST CLICKBAIT !
Then around paragraph 1 million, they post the evidence … and it’s totally true.
On May 26, 2020, Laurie Fiorenza, assistant superintendent for student learning, presented the school board with the findings of the school's “Transformative Education Leadership Team” on “Development & Grading.”
First, why does any school need “Transformative” grading? Schools have been grading kids since the late 1800s. What great new ideas do these nitwits have?
Second, how much do teachers at the school make? Fiorenza is paid $162,000 a year — and her previous initiatives were to eliminate freshman tracking (to hide the evidence of any racial disparities), and to force “racial equity coaches” on the teachers.
Onto the report …
”SUMMARY OF FINDINGS”:
«Traditional grading practices …
I.e. grades based on the number of correct answers.
« …perpetuate inequities and intensify the opportunity gap …
See? There’s nothing about race or ethnicity here! It’s just a lot of verbiage about “inequities” and “the opportunity gap,” which means something else entirely — we’re not sure what, but we’ll tell you later.
«Integrating equitable assessment and grading practices into all academic and elective courses requires the collaborative effort of a team of educators committed to improvements that benefit all students …
“Equitable assessment” = NOT grading on number of correct answers.
“Collaborative effort of a team of educators” = Ta-Nehisi Coates will be lecturing you about your white privilege.
«Many OPRFHS teachers are successfully exploring and implementing more equitable grading practices such as: utilizing aspects of competency-based grading, eliminating zeros from the grade book, and encouraging and rewarding growth over time. …
So teachers are already grading based on “equity” as opposed to, say, number of correct answers.
«Next Steps
«Oak Park and River Forest High School administration and faculty will examine grading and reporting practices in academic and elective courses utilizing evidence-backed research and the racial equity analysis tool.»
I quote: School administrators “will examine grading … utilizing the racial equity analysis tool.”
Good job, media. You totally got to the truth in that FACT CHECK!”
If America were to revert to a White Nationalist state where whites are everything and non-whites are shut into ghettos, after all this shite ... I would just shut the hell up and take my privileges.
